Following closely behind its Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5˚C, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is now finalising two other Special Reports, on Climate and Land, and Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate, for publication in 2019.  The ‘second order drafts’ (near-final versions) of these reports are now open for expert comments – but you will need to act quickly, and have reviewing time available in early January.  Whilst neither report includes chapters specifically on greenhouse gas removal (nor even mitigation), both include relevant text.  In particular, in the land report chapter 2, on land-climate interactions; 5, on food security; 6, on interactions (synergies, trade-offs and integrated response options); and 7, on risk management and decision-making in relation to sustainable development.  In the ocean and ice report, response options are covered in chapter 5, on the changing ocean, marine ecosystems and dependent communities.  For the land report, registration as an expert reviewer is required by 7 January, for review submission by 14 January; for the ocean and ice report, registration by 4 January, review by 11 January.   There are at least three individuals involved in the GGR programme who are ineligible to be reviewers – since they have authorship roles in these reports.
